Overview:

Riverside County EMS Agency and REMSIS are participating in developing and implementing Elite Field tools that are supposed to help with transcribing and save time when documenting in the ePCR platform. This BETA test will see if speech-to-text capture can convert properly into EMS Data fields.

How to use AI (Elite Hero Assist) in Elite Field:

If you are a chosen tester, you can access an extra button at the top next to print and close. You will speak or type your AI prompt there like you are typing into ChatGPT, which will convert your verbal reports into ePCR documentation. You will be limited to 30-second intervals when recording.

Patient demographics, vital signs, procedures, and medications are supported to convert into fields. Plans are being worked on for physical exams and additional sections as the above are completed and tuned.

Prompt Tips:

  • Be specific and give context around the fields being entered, i.e., "Medication given of Midazolam 5 mg" will probably work better than just "Versed 20 mg" or "Mental status of A&Ox4" will tell AI you're talking about Mental Status assessment, if I do "A&Ox4" it seems to want to only fill in Vitals > Level of Responsiveness of Alert.
  • Different time formats should work—am/pm, military time, "5 minutes ago." If you give a prompt based on the current time, please remember that it goes off the agency's time zone set in Elite and NOT the computer's current time.
  • Again, if you give it the context it needs to help point in the right direction, it does pretty well with medical shorthand.
  • If doing voice-to-text first, remember that you can update the text and fix typos before having AI generate the list of fields and values.

Also, here are a few reminders of the current limitations:

  • It will only know about fields and values that are active and visible on the form at the time
  • It doesn't know about site specific resources like users, facilities, vehicles, etc.
  • It doesn't know about site specific fields like supplemental questions or worksheets
  • The fields that have a large list of possible values like medications and procedures are currently limited to the NEMSIS suggested list of values

Feedback:

We have a survey that you can complete as many times as you like. Please provide as much feedback as possible about your experiences; suggestions are encouraged and appreciated!
